Day one is complete!

With a finish of around 11:40, day one is now in the books. Scott’s feelings shortly after the finish “I’m exhausted” well there was another word in there but have to keep it PG for all to read 🙂 Both Lyle and Darren were stellar today, they resurrected the dead and I can’t thank them…

Nearing the end of day one…

The rain has started. 30 miles to go, descended big hill going fast, passed two other riders, continuing to get stronger as the day goes on… Getting very close to the finish now, Scott needs everyone’s thoughts, prayers and encouragement to get to that finish line tonight. Fog has started to roll in, and the…

More from day one…

Mile 25 – great pace and is feeling great. Also on track for nutrition thus far. Mile 40 – having a little issue with stomach. Wind is picking up and swirling pretty good. Getting close to the south point of the island.

From the course day one…

Unofficial swim time of 4 hours and 44 minutes – Scott says it was the hardest thing he has ever done. Between bouts of throwing up because of motion sickness due to the currents and maintaining his swim stroke, he pushed his way thru. He is now at mile 7 of the bike, and is…

Nov 29: RACE DAY!

So many things racing through my mind today! Anticipation, worry, excitement, joy, fear, love, concerns, ‘what if’s’, ….such a busy brain this morning…… Have to keep going back to trust…… Trust in my training – there was a LOT of it! Trust in my body – it has been conditioned to DO this. Trust in…

Nov 29th: Pre Race mtg and Final prep! Race starts tomorrow!!

Managed to get a solid 6 hours sleep before my brain kicked in.  Staying at the hotel was a good call, quiet, restful, put me in a good head space. Darren and Lyle picked me up and we were early at the Sheraton for the Breakfast and Pre Race meeting.  Lots of greetings and reunions…

Ultraman Crew Chief Update…

Aloha from Hawaii! This day has been coming for quite some time.  Scott has asked the crew (Lyle and I) to blog about this experience but for those of you who know me, I am more of a talker than a writer.  Now is the time to get some thoughts down before race morning which…

Nov 27: Registration Check In, Swag and the LAST pre race training!

Today was PACKED from stem to stern!! We headed down to Keauhou bay for a swim, and to meet up with Jochen, one of the athletes from Germany.  Someone stole his wetsuit at the pier yesterday (BOOOOO!) and we had a spare via my friend/Crew Chief Darren, so we lent it to him so he…

Nov 26: No training, tons of prep, organizing and last minute details!

Lyle and I were up early and after a meal, spent over 2 hours planning step by step on how every phase of the race could be handled by the crew.  Darren and I have gone through much of this as well, so it was a great brainstorming session. Then we left to pick up…

Nov 25: Swimming with a Whale

Up early today to get to Lava Java to meet up with other athletes for a swim in Kealakekua Bay.  Several of the athletes have been swimming with dolphins over the past week or so, and I wanted to see if I could be so lucky. Lyle was along for his first island adventure, and it…
